SSSC 23 Things Digital - Thing 18 Social Media
Support in Mind Scotland national office has a twitter account, facebook account, instagram account, YouTube account. Localities also have their own facebook pages or instagram account depending on where staff believe their age groups will visit online most. Info and communication on locality pages proved invaluable during lockdown, especially at the start when we had people panicking about how to get their shopping. Fears were allayed very quickly because of being able to pick up info and contacts on social media and easily share this with social media pages and with individuals not yet on social media. Many people picked up on using social media through lockdown.
Our national office social media accounts are very up to date and feature a good cross section of the different arms and legs the organisation has grown over the years. There was a social media post/job created a year or two back but I believe this has grown into needing a Communications manager now to look at and develop the organisational social media profile further. I don’t believe we are doing quite as much as we can to connect with others; on a locality basis this will hopefully come as younger staff, who are keen to take roles like this forward, are coming in as the organisation grows. On a national basis we need more guidance as staff to be posting relevant content and I believe our national content could include so much more positive health affirmations to really spread understanding that no matter what the issue is basic health needs must still be taken care of to the best of a person's ability, like fresh air, exercise, good diet, friendships. https://twitter.com/suppinmindscot
The resource I like on SSSC social media accounts is ‘The Codes’ https://t.co/i3fIam9RYy
I find the codes are a thorough and easy explanation to anyone on what Social Care is about and the fundamental codes we must treat each other by whether working in health and social care or any other field in life.
